I have not entered any co-ordinates as we were moving from one place to another and had several sightings in that period. We moved from Thakurwadi to Prabalmachi, co-ordinates for both these places have been entered as different records. (I have entered a few records before this with the date 2009-08-16; all these dates actually are 2009-08-15. Is there anyway to rectify this mistake?) |

The first sighting was of four dragonflies seen over a comparatively big puddle filled up with rain water. Next we saw a swarm of approximately 15 Wandering Gliders, flying over a patch of bare rock. After this we saw a pair laying eggs in a road-side puddle. The day was concluded with the sighting of a single Wandering Glider, seen flying over water collected because of the dam constructed over the river flowing out of the park. (Again no photographic evidence, this time because of the rains.) [DragonflyIndia Message#1667] |

Initially, I had a feeling Pantala\'s have not yet arrived in Bangalore for i could see none of them in the human habitations -open lands, empty sites, water bodies.. Thought let me drive some distance away from the city and give a try in open lands, lakes and hills. After half an hour drive, I could find the first one a lonely Pantala flying low above the paddy fields (near the Nice ring road). In the next one and half hours, I sighted 14 of them. And, it was quite strange that most of them were flying alone. I always Wonder what can be the reason? When will they transform into a swarm consisting of hundreds. Are these individuals part of a fresh new migratory batch or from the pre monsoon batch.
Sighting pattern of the 14 individuals (1+1+2+1+1+1+1+1+1+3+1).
Range: Between Begur and Bettadasana pura
Co ordinates: Between 12.877074, 77.635832(Begur) and 12.842766, 77.631798(Bettadasanpura)
Distance covered: 20kms to and fro.
Time Between 10am to 12 noon.
Notes: No Pantalas were found in Begur or Bettadasanapura lakes. No Pantalas observed in betadasanapura hill. No Pantalas observed near any of the peepal trees. (Its common to see them in large congregation near peepal trees where they find some flying insects to eat. May be have to wait for another couple of months).
